Describe your work!
This is always a tough question for me, but simply put, Rock and Roll.
Why do you think the artistic community in Iowa is so important?
Art is the opportunity to be a human being contributing to the human experience. It’s a way to share what you think and how you feel that is more honest than politics or religion. It brings people together. It gives people a way to connect through their shared expression. A strong arts scene makes for a strong and open community.
“Society cannot exist without art.” – Virgil (Roman Poet)
What do you think is important for our community to do better when it comes to supporting local art and music?
Go to shows, support other artists, have a sincere passion and enthusiasm in everything you do and create, pay covers and listen to your friends’ albums.
How can our community lift you up/support you?
Who else do you think we should lift up? Give someone a shoutout!
First, we would like to thank artist Van Holmgren for providing us with a practice space! It is really helping us get in the mindset for our tour! I’d also like to shout out to artist and dear friend, Mia Farrell. She is ever encouraging and the most supportive person I have ever met. She is not just a major advocate for Odd Pets, but for the arts community as a whole. I guarantee you will find her at an arts event 9 out of 10 times. Last but not least, I want to thank Bob Nastanovich: artist, friend and mentor. I’m so thankful for his endless support, for believing in me and in Odd Pets. Bob put out our 7” vinyl on his label, Broker’s Tips Records and also booked our tour (mentioned below). I encourage folks to check out his super danceable DJ Need-A-Stack sets at Red Monk every month, as well as his hosted “Trivia Night” every Tuesday (7:30 pm) at Truman’s!
What makes you magic?
Music has meant the world to me for a long time and I’m just grateful to be part of it.
Where can we find Odd Pets music?
We also have tapes and records available at ZZZ Records.
Any upcoming events?
We also have a Midwest tour coming up from March 2nd to March 10th that we are super excited about. We will be touring with Lucy Arnell (band) from Los Angeles and DJ Need-A-Stack, aka Bob Nastanovich (Pavement, Silver Jews).
